Last Exchange Point

We are soooo grateful for our wonderful race-day volunteers - Michele M., Sheina S., and Peter S. The spread was AMAZING and your exchange point (the last before the finish in Carbondale) was head and shoulders above the rest. Muffins, cookies, candy, more muffins, cookie bars, breads, more muffins, hot apple cider, and chai tea latte with soymilk. they had two stoves out, with a third on standby if needed. Van A could only recall two other exchange points with food - one had a small bowl of pretzels, another had chocolate-covered bananas. No comparison.

Michele, Sheina, and Peter (and Fawn for making food) - THANK YOU!!!

Lather Up

Some of us are amazed how one can "wash" oneself with a shower so short. We are all about water conservation, but also big proponents of appropriate lathering. Not naming names, but it's called soap - use it! You know who you are. :) (always some ribbing going on with this team!)

Post-Race Updates from Van A

We were as bummed as our followers about the blog's technical difficulties last night. Quick recap of Van A's final journey towards Carbondale:
Claire ran about 7 miles along Hwy. 6, from Eagle HS to Dotsero, finishing her 3rd leg at 3:30 am.
Michelle's 3rd leg began the team's journey through Glenwood Canyon, for a total of 5+ miles, ending at 4:15 am.
Willy ran 6.5 miles through the canyon, from Bair Ranch to Shoshone, finishing at 5:05 am.
Next, Joe ran from Shoshone to No Name, about 5+ miles.
And finally, Eric finished off Van A's 2010 Colorado Relay by running almost 4 miles from No Name to the Glenwood Springs Community Center, completing his run at about 6:15 am.

We ran under beautifully starry skies, surrounded by canyon walls (some of us) on a moonlit night. Weather could not have been better. Claire even reported seeing two shooting stars during Michelle's run.

Wake Up!

At about 1:40 am, Van A is slowly coming back to life in preparation for Legs 21-25. Must.sleep.again.soon.

Technical Difficulties

Looks like we were a little excited about posting to the blog and we maxed it out. I think we have it figured out and have begged and pleaded with the appropriate parties. Please check back for post-dated updates and thanks for following us.

This site will be active once the 2010 Colorado Relay is complete and we've all recovered (and found time to update this).

Mad Skillz

The parking at Lionshead in Vail is NUTS. Maneuvering a 15-passenger van took mad skillz by Michelle and Willy. It would have been easy to run over the VW Beetle that was in the way, but that would have violated our health and safety plan. :)

Legs 13 & 14

Willy is almost done with Leg 13. Joe is ready to rock 'n roll on Leg 14. It's 8:33 p.m. and dark. Let the long night begin!

Volunteer Spirit

The Colorado Relay could not happen without volunteers, and each team is required to supply 2+ volunteers.

We would like to give a very special THANK YOU to the Golder Running with Scissors volunteers: Michele M., Sheina S., and Sheina's husband Peter will be operating the BEST exchange point (near Carbondale). They will check runners in and out, but they also go above and beyond the call of duty by baking/making/bringing yummy food for the runners. A special thank you also to Fawn B. for baking goodies for the Golder-manned exchange point.

Team #25

Captain Tom forgot to give Van A a team bib. So Claire busted out her artistic talent and created one with paper, pen, and tape (as laminate) this morning. Way to pull through for the team, Claire!

Van 2 passing the time before the start at Burning Bear

Found Her!

Michelle didn't look very hard the first time. Claire has been found. We knew you were worried.

Sleepytime

Michelle is having a hard time falling asleep, which means she could capture a sleepy shot of Joe and Willy (near the Frisco Marina). Not sure where our compadre Claire ended up... only her shoes are left as evidence in our sleeping area.

Lunch and Siesta!

Mmmmm... Our (Van A) bellies are full after yummy sandwiches at Smiling Moose Deli in Frisco. Next up - siesta! Got to rest up for the long night! Zzzzzzz...

Chillaxing

The weather today is awesome, perfect for soaking our legs at 11,000+ feet. Joe looks happy to be here!

Cold Toes

Claire opted to just get her feet wet.

Cold Water Soak

Van A has some downtime, so we stuck our legs in a high mountain lake on Loveland Pass. Willy was brave enough to get his entire legs wet in the freezing cold water.

Office Manager Leading the Charge

Our sweat-soaked Office Manager, Willy, pounded out 5+ miles for Leg 3 between Silver Plume and Loveland ski area. Way to go!

Van A finished right on schedule this morning.

Organization

This race takes some strategic organization. This is Golder's eighth year participating in this race, so we've worked out most of the logistical kinks.

Here's Michelle acting organized on clipboard duty at Loveland ski area.

Van A Update

Joe just finished a short but brutal hill climb at Loveland ski area. Props to Joe!

We have a looooonnnngg break now, as Claire doesn't run again until about 5:45. Maybe we should make a run to the outlet mall???
